Briefing

The Van Dale dictionary is Netherlands’ most extensive and prestigious dictionary. Since the previous edition in 2005 a lot has changed in how we access information. How to create a dictionary on paper in the age of the iPhone and iPad?

Proposal

To improve the dictionary’s functionality new navigational elements like colour and illustration are introduced as well as a new typeface that includes symbols. The white cover signals a shift in thinking about knowledge in the information age.

Contribution

Redesign of the 15th edition of a 150 year old dictionary of the Dutch language updating it to the digital age.
